Shop #6: Great people and a fine show at the Quilt & Sew Studio

Our southernmost tip of the trip landed us in Lynchburg, VA, home of Liberty University, of Jerry Fallwell fame. This little piece of information becomes very important later in our story so remember it my friends. Here's a great little project made from the Tour fabrics. This was our free quilt pattern and Miss Kay did a great job with it. I'm not sure if the pattern was designed by Miss Kay or someone else but it was packaged like a real pattern and I thought it was great.

This was their Tour Quilt. I thought the stack-and-whack dresden idea was really great for this fabric.

Here is another quilt they made from the same fabrics. I loved this one too. I liked the fact that their was no "white space" or light fabrics. Just the ones in the collection.

Here was one of the Scavenger Hunt clues. The "Florentine Sampler" has me concerned. I thought maybe there was some new technique or historical thing that I had not read about. Turns out it's just named for the line of fabrics that its created in. It was a really gorgeous quilt.

Here are the handmade hand-dyed fabrics made by one of the employees in the store. Mr. Kevin Womack loves to make his own hand-dyes and they are for sale in the shop. He even has a sample quilt made from some of his fabrics. If you look really close you can see Kevin in the background helping a customer with the sewing machines.

This shop was filled with beautiful quilts. One of the "shop girls" made the center quilt and also the Florentine from above. That orange and purple beauty was all hand quilted and was beautifully done.

Here was clue #2 in the Scavenger Hunt: An alien invasion. These blocks were so cute I just had to put them up. I think the one all the way on the right looks a lot like a Dr. Seuss Sneetch. Take a look and let me know if you agree.

I guess I was all worn out from all that shopping today. I found lots of things that I loved to death but I just couldn't see myself doing major purchasing at every store. I talked and laughed a lot with Miss Kay and the employees of the store and even a customer or two. We got advice on the best places to eat and petted Miss Kay's tiny teacup poodle who is pictured very small below. Here is the lone fabric that I bought. I found this one in the bargain bin and thought it would be a great red.

Below is the free pattern for the purse as well as the free pattern that I won. We also got a magnet calendar with a photo of the teacup and the poodle on it. She's a tiny one.
So with the tour fabric and my little find, my Grand Total at Quilt & Sew Studio was $11.71.
I am completely exhausted from all the driving and shopping. I know Lucy is too. So it's time for Lucy and Phyllis to grab a nice dinner and find a hotel for the night. Let's see how it goes.
